About

My name is Gautam Satpathy and I live in Hyderabad,India. I am an engineer by trade and work for Oracle at it’s offices in Hyderabad.

I graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology,Kharagpur in the mid 90s. I am married with two children,Mamli &Bablu. My wife,Padmaja,is an engineer from the NIT Rourkela (earlier known as REC Rourkela) and works for the Steel Authority of India Limited.

The Satpathy family is originally from the rural areas of present day Bengal. My ancestors have lived and farmed in and around the village of Jamboni in the Medinapur district of West Bengal since the early 1700s. Now only my grandfather’s younger brother and his family live and farm the family’s land in Jamboni. The rest of the family has migrated to the cities of India and the USA.

We are Odiya Brahmins by birth. Our mother tongue is Odiya,a language as old as the other North Indian languages like Hindi. Take a look at the web site of Samaj to see what the Odiya script looks like. Samaj is the leading Odiya daily newspaper published in Odissa. I plan to put together a complete (as complete as we can make it) family tree with the help of my grandfather. I will post it here as soon as I can.

The immediate family is:

  • Sisir Kumar Satpathy (my paternal grandfather)
  • Manorama Satpathy (my paternal grandmother)
  • Binoy Ranjan Satpathi (my Father)

  • Gautam Satpathy (I)
  • Padmaja Satpathy (my Wife)
  • Durgesh Nandini Satpathy (our daughter &eldest child)
  • Jyotiraditya Satpathy (our son)
  • Gayatri Satpathy (my younder sister)
  • Samarendra Misra (my brother-in-law &Gayatri’s husband)
  • Meghna Misra (my eldest niece)
  • Sacchi Misra (my second niece)

On my in-laws side the family is:

  • Sudhakar Padhi (my father-in-law)
  • Manjula Padhi (my mother-in-law)
  • Rohan Padhi (my brother-in-law)
